We will be asking you to reflect on each day in the blog so that you can get comfortable with blogs and how they are used. Wow!!! So much new material... So much to learn..... Share your thoughts on what worked well for you and suggestions for the rest of the week.
The morning has been very helpful to a) revisit some of the information from my prior learning, and b) learn new information (I now have a portaportal all set up and ready to go!) Thanks so much.
It has been great taking in all of this information and it is making me excited to do some exploring and experimenting. I am looking forward to getting started on my project!
This has been totally overwhelming. I need to sit and practice this for the rest of the day! Too many passwords and not enough boxes to house this in my brain.
OMG, this reminds me of when you sign out the computers to use with students, and you spend the whole class period getting everyone logged on and then the period is over... Isn't it time for lunch??? I'm hungry!!!
I'm glad to be here again as I forgot approximately 98% of what we did last year. I'm really rocking with the 2% I remembered, so it is all worthwhile. I hope to use the social bookmarking with the kids, especially when they do research on the web.
I'm alternately inspired and overwhelmed. The social-networking video was not "new" information necessarily, but wow, still impressive. I kind of thought I knew, but the concrete nature of the speed of the world also makes me think, like I believe Bernajean Porter suggested, that "curriculum" needs to get ditched for the sake of continuous thinking. The new curriculum is learning - constant and ongoing - that no one owns the information. And that information isn't stagnant.
This was a great first day! A lot of information to go home and absorb and play with. I am really interested in creating a blog and using it on my website (rather than posting newsletters like I have done in the past). I am looking forward to the presentations tomorrow to get some more ideas. I also am ready to get going on my project so I can begin to put all these pieces together!
I appreciated the time to explore which makes me think I should do the same with my students. We were able to set up a team blog that we will use with both students and parents. I am wondering how we will get and keep parents involved.
Wow! I'm overwhelmed but in a positive way. REally great information today. Our last group activity, working with Animoto, we encountered issue of what images and materials we can use and what the rules are about uploading images from other sites. Could we address that at some point this week. Looking forward to tomorrow!
I enjoyed today's session. I liked having time to "play" and try new stuff. One concern I had (and interestingly a discussion on #edchat on twitter last night) had to do with using social media in school and the risk that come with it. I got the impression today from our discussion that some people were very concerned about the potential for online predators, etc getting at kids when their pictures and work are published online. Everything that I've read suggests this is a very very small issue at best when in fact most predators are people that actually know the kids (like relatives). I think its important that we not become victims of the media and we instead realize the value in presenting to a global audience.
After going home and digesting everything, I am feeling pretty good about the first day. The most valuable thing that I am taking away from today is being familiar with delicious and successfully using it. I can see t his truly coming in handy and using it frequently with my colleagues. I am still struggling with how I would incorporate wiki's with my first and second graders. Any ideas?
I too appreciated time to explore and try things out. I played around for a while with Issuu, and although I can't seem to get it to work entirely, I was very intrigued and can see how I would use it with my students (provided I can figure it out). I'll echo Karen's excitement in creating our team blog which is very cool and provides a new and different way for communication to happen between school and home!
So many things to think about today, but not enough time to play around with all of them. At the end of the day, I closed soooo many tabs. I felt pretty good looking at the top 100 apps for learning. I'm at least familiar with many of them and some of the ones I'm not familiar with are variations on a theme. OTOH, familiarity won't get me far in the classroom. I imagine much of my time this week will be devoted to thinking about the skills I want students to learn and use and which tech tools offer opportunities for students to work at the transformative level.
Great comments everyone! Please try not to feel overwhelmed. For those new to a lot of this technology, it is a LOT in the first couple of days. Try to choose one or two things to dig into, remember that there are many, many other tools out there and enjoy the ride. The things you want to do will rise to the top and there is no "test" on what you have seen this week. ;-)
Great job by all presenters today..I've learned so much and continue to be amazed at the amount of technology that can make lessons more fun and inspiring..Picking things up at a snails pace!

ReplyDeleteSome repeat from last year, but also a lot of good reminders of tools to check out. Looking forward to exploring them further as the week goes on.
