Friday - Yeah.....
Whew...... We have made it three days. Thank you for great discussions and being such amazing learners and soaking up some many of the new technologies and learning we have shared with you. I would love to learn more about Podcasting which I think Lisa mentioned we would do on Monday. Also, is someone going to share about Bamboo tablets?
ReplyDeleteI also want to know more about podcasting. I can't think of what else right now. I think my mind is full.
ReplyDeleteI feel great about the work I've gotten done, although I feel like the more time I have, the more I find I want to do!
ReplyDeleteI would like to learn about podcasting, smilebox, and also have a little guided play time with the ipod touch. I am really amazed at how much I have gotten done, but feel like Stacey in wanting to try more and more things out. I love that we have the time in this class to really experiment with things, because in the "real world" I never have the time to sit and do this. Have a great weekend everyone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for everything these past 3 days. I loved learning about how to use the smartboard and feel that it could be an EXTREMELY valuable tool to have in my classroom. I am interested in seeing what I can do (writing a grant) to get one in my classroom. As I was learning how to use it, ideas were flooding my brain of ways I could utilize it. Helen and I made great progress on our project and even were able to create pictures on TuxPaint and use them to create our own PhotoStory on the moon. I am interested in learning more about Audacity and how to use it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been great having time to work on our curriculum project. Jacqui and I have been putting together a photostory to go along with our moon unit. It's been great to be able to work on this together as she is much more tech savy than I am and it's been nice to have guidance as I learn. This morning we worked on our annual goal setting, which next year will be to have more of a purpose when we take students to the computer lab. We've outlined computer skills and programs we plan to teach our students. We're also going to try to post our newsletter on our website and work collaboratively on this.
ReplyDeleteLisa, thanks for the lesson on the Smartboard. What an incredible learning tool. I could think of many ways to use this with my students. Now, I'll have to work on a grant to get one in my classroom! I'm interested to learn about Audacity and I'm not still not proficient about downloading photos and placing them in files so I can access them with ease. (O.K., no laughing out there!)
~Eric, thanks for your response and feedback. You've given me other ideas in which to use Animoto.
It was a great day and my brain is saturated for now.
Have a great weekend everybody!
Well, I'm excited. I feel like I'm "dialed in" again. It's great to be refreshed with the "goods." I went over to my classroom today and emptied many binders and files into re-cycling. Cathartic. The digital stuff is not only more streamlined, but forcing me to think about being interactive with the kids in different ways. Also, I'm thinking about how they are going to interact with each other in these different ways as well. One conundrum I'm still having is with commonly read works - short, like stories and poems - where I used to hand out copies and have students post-it and such. Many stories are available electronically these days, but many aren't. I'm wondering about ways to move texts to a digital format (legally) for virtual discussion purposes. An alternative would be to read the work in class and then comment, but that doesn't seem as powerful as "sticking" something right onto the work where the comment arose.
ReplyDeleteEverything has been great. There's nothing specific I feel is missing. Mostly I want/need time to work on my project and play with some of the tools and ideas that have been discussed thus far.
ReplyDeleteAnother great day! I am learning so much, especially as we have had the time to really work with the technology and 2.0 tools we have learned about.
ReplyDeleteLisa, sorry about the interruption during the SmartBoard tutorial. Despite that, I still learned a couple of new ways in which to use it. It's really such a great tool and I feel like you could have devoted more than 45 minutes to it. Of course, that could be said about many of the tools we're learning about. I'm with Jaqui, we've got to find a way at RES to get more of these in the classrooms!
I'm looking forward to the weekend to digest, finish responding to the readings and play more with some of these technological tools. It really is great that we have the weekend to regroup. Not only as I've reached my saturation point mentally, but my body is barking about sitting here for so long. I'm going to go for a good walk when I get home. Have a great weekend!
I too have learned so much in the past three days. I am so glad that we've had the time built in to work on our projects. Jen and I made a photo story from beginning to end... 4 photos and a title page. It took the two of us about an hour and a half. I'm predicting that the next one will only take half that amount of time and by the time we get to using it with kids we'll have it down to minutes! I would like some discussion about how to share these projects with parents - what can be posted on our school web sites, how to have invitation only places on the sites, etc. That would include sharing photos, photo albums, slide shows, etc. I too am interested in learning more about Itouch. Even just using I tunes (OK -maybe I just need to ask a 12 year old for this) and how to purchase music for school use (rather than my own $$ -is this a dream?) and having a classroom Ipod and speakers. David - you tossed binders of paper files. I just tossed vinyl records last year!!!! Some other things that I still hope to learn are some really basic file managements tips- saving, naming files so that I might find them; storing on flash drives vs. the net; etc. Today someone mentioned printing labels and I realize that I totally forget how to do that! Any other management tools for teachers that I don't even know I shouldn't be without!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Jeanne
I think at this point that I just want to continue playing with the tools I've picked up this week instead of exploring any new tools. The COOP is spending a lot of time with edu 2.0 and are planning to use this next year. Thanks to everyone for the great energy. I'm already pretty excited for next year. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteHelen- no problem! I think you are definitely asking the right question though- just because something looks really flashy doesn't mean that it has educational value. And of course you are modeling what you want out of students (thinking/questioning) by putting the question out there as to WHY we would use something
ReplyDeleteI'd like to echo what a lot of other people have said. I'm excited about starting the next school year. I think the main thing I need is more time to work. All the time we have been given has really helped me work my way through many things and will continue to do so.
ReplyDeleteWell....I am starting to feel refreshed and energized for tomorrow. I feel as though I have learned a lot this week through both the class and the homework assignments. I am getting excited about incorporating more technology into my classroom this year. I see a lot of great ideas from both the readings and from the other teachers in class. My main focus for the last two days is to work with Mike and Jenn to continue learning about Edu2.0 and how to use the netbooks in class. However, if time permits, I would like to learn about downloading videos and editing them on the computer. I still struggle with this.
ReplyDeleteThis is how I know that I am learning: I dreamed about computers and facebook and edu2.0 and subject matter for the last three nights! Clearly, my brain is working hard to integrate all the new information. I, like David, am trying to figure out how to teach traditional books in an electronic setting. Any ideas?
