Final Day - Final Thoughts

What is the top concept or most relevant piece of information you are taking away from this week of class or online class discussions? Will anything you have learned this week, change your classroom and if so, what? Explain your thoughts on technology integration and how you plan to incorporate it into your classroom or learning environment.
Have a good remaining summer and feel free to contact Joanne and I if you have questions after class is out.
Thanks for a wonderful learning environment and have a restful remainder of the summer.

  1. The biggest idea is that tech integration should be seamless. Also that our delivery system for education needs transformation, which I kind of already knew, but feel it more. I like to discuss in forums and blogs and will use that more with my students.

  2. I am leaving with the idea that I need to integrate technology into my curriculum seamlessly and to do that I need to become more familiar with it. I am excited to use technology on a more consistent basis and prepare my young student for the future. I am grateful to have taken this class with colleagues so I can check in with them, ask questions, and so we can help each other out. I will absolutely be using Photostory this year with my second graders and be visiting the tech lab more consistently to meet my tech goals.

  3. The big idea that I'm taking away is the importance of technology integration in our schools to best prepare our students and to facilitate optimal learning opportunities.I feel fortunate to have taken this class with other colleagues so that we can support each other in our new learning. I'm excited to use Photostory with my second graders and will try Audacity to foster reading fluency. I will be more apt to participate in tech workshops at school and request assistance from Joanne or our other tech person when I need guidance or take a step to try other new applications in technology. I leave here knowing what a Moodle and Wiki are and have a better understanding of how to use them.

  4. I think that the biggest idea that I am taking away from this class is that I need to provide opportunities for my students to make connections around the world. I hope to do this through Edmodo and ePals. This will make the student work more authentic and will motivate them to work hard.

  5. I think my project is pretty clear about my intentions for directions within my classroom. I think what I'm taking away is the power of social networking. I was not a proponent of this before, but am becoming (quickly) a convert. I'm now signed up for several social networks and am discovering the power they wield. I'm anxious to engage with my students in this manner, and to have them engage with each other more. Most importantly - I need to be flexible and fluid. I need to be aware of the fact that I and the students are learning not only different things, but learning differently. I find I have a different perspective on multi-tasking and the idea of being "on-task".

  6. I am leaving this class with the understanding that technology can be integrated into every class, every subject, and every grade level. I am excited about teaching my unit, making adjustments to it, and then being creative in using tools to integrate technology into other areas of my curriculum. I am also walking away much more confident and I know that I don't know it all, but have wonderful people who can help me! I am also excited to explore my ipod touch and figure out all the ways I can use it in PE.

  7. We're clearly going to be looking at ways to integrate technology on a daily basis. This is will be an ongoing learning process and this week has given me lots of good ideas of how to make this happen.

  8. I appreciate being exposed to many tools and contacts in this class. My head was swimming with ideas every day. Although it's difficult to prioritize the top concept, I'd have to say I appreciate the reminders to start small and build from there. I thought I was starting with a small, relatively easy project, and am amazed at how many new ideas I incorporated as a result of this class. It surely gives me something concrete to build upon this coming year.

Thanks to everyone for your collaboration!

  9. I am really energized and excited to integrate the netbooks and other web2.0 tools into my teaching this year. I am so greatful for the time to play around with the new tools and to begin to use them - I really think that without the freedom to experiment that this clss gave us, I wouldn't have had time to make the netbook project work. And I am confident it will work.

  10. I feel much more focused about how I'm going to start the year, and certainly how I'm going to tackle the social studies unit I created this week. The biggest idea I'm taking away from this class and our discussions is the idea that the technology we use needs to be woven seamlessly into what we teach, and we need to ask ourselves if the technology makes what we're doing better, or just different? Thanks for a great week:)

  11. I come away from class not so much with new tech tools and ideas but rather general 21st century ideas. I know that I need to work on getting a more authentic audience for my students to generate more buy in from the reluctant learners. I was able to get a variety of resources from the Gardeners supply teak furniture idea to people who know others that have spent time doing community service in Latin America. I hope to tap into at least some of these this year. This class was a perfect way to start off August and get me energized for the upcoming school year. Even though we have a couple weeks until we officially go back to school, I've got so many ideas running through my head I'm ready to start!

  12. Aside from FaceBook, I really didn't have much knowledge of or experience with social networking - Blogging, Wikis and any of the 2.0 tools. I feel much more comfortable about this now, and less reluctant to create a password and an account. I'm really psyched about my PortaPortal, and the ability to guide students to all of the Web resources I've amassed over the last five years. I've always realized the importance of incorporating technology into teaching for our kids' future, but now feel much more confident about actually doing it. I really enjoyed this class and hope to take Level II next summer!!

  13. Others have said it, but I too see how important it is to integrate technology in all aspects of the school day. I keep thinking about the statement - We are educating for THEIR future, not OUR past. I think the biggest thing that I came away with is really thinking about the way we use technology to transform the way we teach vs. teaching the same way just using a tech tool. I am also walking away knowing that while I will never be a native speaker, I look forward to the adventure in the new country. I won't hesitate to learn from the natives and to ask others who are more fluent in the language and culture to help me!
